Days 1 & 2 – New Orleans
Depart the UK on your chosen Scheduled flight to New Orleans, upon Arrival collect your hire car and proceed to your hotel, your base for the first 2 nights of your exciting holiday. New Orleans is the jewel of the southern US state of Louisiana set just above the mouth of the mighty Mississippi River where it meets the Gulf of Mexico. This exotic and vibrant city is the birth place of jazz. Take a walking tour of the French quarter, an area filled with jazz clubs, wonderful old buildings, narrow streets with iron gateways and beautiful courtyards. Enjoy a swamp boat tour or a leisurely ride on the Nachez steamboat
Days 3 & 4 – Lafayette
Driving distance 136 miles / 2½ hours
Your journey commences southwest into Cajun country in southern Louisiana, an area filled with history and Cajun heritage, heading for Lafayette your home for the next 2 nights. A visit to Southdown Plantation House and The Terrebonne Museum will give you real insights into the areas unique planation history and the Bayou Terrebonne Wildlife Museum brings to life the importance of the state waterways.
We suggest you stop for lunch in Houma or Morgan City where the first submersible oil rig “Mr Charlie” has been converted into a museum. In the afternoon relive the golden age of aviation at Louisiana State museum, in Patterson, or perhaps visit Avery Islands where you can tour the tobacco factory. Lafayette is home to many great events and festivals and always enjoys a lively atmosphere. Traditional cuisine is a treat to be enjoyed here and a host of sightseeing opportunities will keep you entertained. The Acadian Cultural Centre, The Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Lafayette Natural history Museum and Acadian Village all give you an insight in the rich culture and heritage of the Deep South.
Days 5, 6 & 7 – Baton Rouge
Driving Distance 58 miles / 1 hour
We would suggest an early start this morning, although it’s only a short trip to Baton Rouge, your base for the next 3 nights, Baton Rouge has such an abundance of side trips offering an array of things to do you will need plenty of time to fit them all in.
Baton Rouge is Louisiana’s capital city it’s rich in Louisiana culture, entertainment and heritage. Located about 80 miles west of New Orleans, and known affectionately as the Red Stick, Baton Rouge Louisiana is home to legendary Louisiana Cajun cuisine, a booming film and television industry, fascinating plantation tours, Mardi Gras thrills, family-friendly festivals and a variety of attractions, events the whole family can enjoy. There is also an abundance of golf courses and beautiful resort hotels with relaxing swimming pools, and spas, for the odd day off sightseeing. Experience the magic of a timeless destination as you tour of one of the most historic, vibrant and always unforgettable cities in the South.
Day 8 – New Orleans
Driving distance 82 miles / 1½ hours
You’re heading east today to the heart of plantation country, an area filled with an array of small towns each with their own individual charm. For your final journey you will head south between Lake Maurepas and Lake Pontchartrain back into the lively city of New Orleans. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the sights you didn’t manage to visit at the beginning of the trip, and at the end of the day relax, and enjoy, a great Cajun meal accompanied by some live music and good old fashion southern hospitality.
Day 9 – New Orleans to UK
Sadly time to make your way to New Orleans airport and return your hire car before checking in for your flight home to the UK.
