Full Itinerary - New England Cape Cod Fly Drive holiday
Days 1 to 4 Boston
Explore the Freedom Trail, ride the Swanboats, shop at Quincy Market or try taking a Boston ’Duck Tour’ and get to see the city from land and water. Boston has an abundance of museums, art galleries and shops all waiting to be discovered.
Days 5 & 6 Kennebunkport
Driving distance: 91 miles / 2 hours
Today you travel along the north shore of Massachusetts, past the witching town of Salem, through the small coastal area of New Hampshire and across the state line into Maine. Kennebunkport is a wonderful coastal village, and summer home to former US President George Bush.
Days 7 to 9 White Mountains
Driving distance: 75 miles / 1½ hours
Another day of fabulous scenery as you travel past the many lakes and small country villages of Maine, a stop in Conway will treat you to a ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad, or for , journey to Mt Washington – New Hampshire’s highest peak. Tonight’s accommodation is at Bretton Woods, in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest.
Today’s drive is relatively short, allowing you plenty of time to take advantage of the Inn’s facilities before you leave and ample time to explore the White Mountains as you travel south. Meredith is located on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee and your inn for tonight is lakeside, so we suggest a gourmet dinner overlooking the water.
Days 10 & 11 Newport
Driving distance: 180 miles / 4 hours
Venture into the Berkshire Hills and perhaps enjoy a side trip to Hancock Shaker Village, one of the last Shaker settlements, or to Stockbridge, once home to Norman Rockwell – one of America’s greatest artists. Newport is the summer playground of America’s first millionaires with many fascinating things to see and do. Spend a day on the beach or tour Cliff Walk and Ten Mile Drive with its extravagant and opulent mansions.
Days 12 to 14 Cape Cod
Driving Distance: 90 miles / 2 hours
A pleasant drive today brings you to Cape Cod, a fabulous summer resort with white sandy beaches and abundant attractions. En route visit Plimoth Plantation, a living museum depicting life in 1627 and Sandwich, the Cape’s oldest town. This morning you may wish to take the ferry across to one of the beautiful islands of Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard. Make sure you visit colourful Provincetown, take a whale watch sightseeing cruise and visit the seaside towns of Yarmouth, Hyannis and Brewster. A wealth of fabulous seafood restaurants leave you spoilt for choice.
Day 15 – Return to the UK
Driving distance: 89 miles
Time for some last minute shopping or sightseeing before making your way back to Boston Airport to return your hire car and check in for your flight back to the UK – sadly all good things have to come to an end
