Transferring  from JFK or Newark airport into central Manhattan is usually achieved by taking one of the infamous yellow taxi's from outside the airport. There are regular shuttle services although they can be time consuming with multiple stops at city hotels.

The metro is an easy way to get around Manhattan itself however, its worth considering taking a water taxi for the views alone.
