Full Itinerary - Northern California Fly Drive

Days 1 to 3 San Francisco.

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to San Francisco. Upon arrival take a taxi, or we’ll arrange a transfer for you, to your preferred hotel where you will spend the first 4 nights of your holiday. San Francisco is one of the most enchanting cities in the USA. From Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world, to Alcatraz and Fisherman’s Wharf, from Union Square to the historic Cable Cars, Chinatown and the Golden Gate Bridge – the city is bursting with things to see and do

Days 4 to 6 Napa Valley & Wine Region

Driving distance: 60 miles approximately 1 hour

Enjoy life to the full tasting vintage wines, poking around antique shops and galleries, relaxing in luxurious spas, swimming, playing golf and tennis, floating lazily over the valley in a colourful balloon and enjoying memorable evenings of fine dining. You may want to visit the Charles M. Shulz Museum, filled with original “Peanuts” cartoons in nearby Santa Rosa.

Day 7 Mendocino

Driving distance: 130 miles approximately 2 hours

On route to Mendocino stop off at the great Horticulturist Luther Burbank’s Gardens before driving North West through the rugged hills, cradling small organic wineries to the picturesque coastal town of Mendocino, an artist’s favourite.

Days 8 & 9 Eureka & Redwood National Park

Driving distance: 143 miles approximately 2 hours 20

On leaving Mendocino follow the coastal road north to Eureka, a pretty town full of restored Victorian homes and the park-lands protecting 300 foot tall coastal redwood trees. Be sure to include the 31 miles Avenue of giants towards Crescent City.

Days 10 & 11 Mount Shasta & Lassen Volcanic National Park

Driving Distance: 210 miles approximately 3 hours 45 minutes

Mount Shasta and the surrounding area is a breath taking. Mount Shasta itself is massive dormant volcano that’s snow-capped all year round attracting snowboarders and skiers, although the lower slopes are lush green meadows, every turn offers a stunning view with many of the trails and hikes passing huge waterfalls and natural springs. Nestled within Lassen’s peaceful mountain you will find that hissing fumaroles and boiling mud pots still shape and change the land, both humbling experiences.

Days 12 &: 13 Sacramento

Driving Distance: 220 miles approximately 3 hours 30 minutes

California’s capital city is often overlooked by tourists but you’ll find a wealth of activities, a vibrant nightlife and a host of restaurants to choose from. You can still pan for gold on the rivers that run throughout this region, though fishing, rafting and kayaking are more popular nowadays. Train buffs will be wowed by the California State railroad museum, old Sacramento is an historic area of restored buildings, museums and novelty shops whilst Sacramento zoo appeals to families.

Day 14 Fly home from San Francisco to London Heathrow

Driving Distance: 90 miles approximately 1 hours 30
