There are numerous National Parks across America, from the East to West, all definitely worth the trip, in fact there are so many that you'll be spoilt for choice. There will be some you’ve heard of, and perhaps some you haven’t, but wherever you plan to visit, adding in a National Park to your trip, or visiting several Parks in one state, will really add to your American Holiday experience.
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona situated in striking distance of Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon is a powerful and inspiring landscape, a unique combination of geologic colour and erosional forms that overwhelm by their immense size. Take a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon and drop down into the vast canyons to experience a birds eye view or relax and stay at the Grand Canyon village on the south rim over night to witness the memorable sunrise and sunset. The activities are endless with in the vast park from horse riding to hiking, white water rafting down the Colorado River to gentle strolls along the 5 miles of promenade along the rim edge to train rides on the infamous Grand Canyon steam Railway.
Bryce National Park, is a dramatic and stunning National park, carved by erosion these magical rock spires jut upwards that glow with colour at sunrise and sunset. The 18 miles drive along The Paunsaugunt Plateau rim overlooks much of this amazing rock architecture offering views of some 100 miles at some points. Bryce Canyon has 50 miles of hiking trails that skirt these famous formations where it’s likely you’ll spy mule, deer, elk and antelope. It’s possible to overnight with in the park to really explore Bryce and its horse and pony trails, natures walks, quad bike tracks or traditional rodeo or if your short on time Bryce Canyon is just a short 2 hour drive north of Las Vegas.
Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, these outstanding mountains straddle the border between North Carolina and Tennessee and are world renowned for the diversity and vast forest ridges. The mountains are only a short drive from Nashville or Chattanooga but, without doubt, worlds apart.
Yosemite National Park, California, is best known for its waterfalls, deep valleys, grand meadows, lakes and ancient giant sequoias all within its 1,200 square miles. Visitors enjoy the 800 miles of hiking trails, nature walks, cycle paths, sightseeing tours on small trams and abundance of free roaming wildlife. Yosemite is close to San Francisco and a short deviation off Pacific Highway 1 or stay with in the park at Yosemite Lodge at the Falls or the luxury Ahwahnee.
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, is home to a large variety of wildlife; grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk and the most popular geyser in the world, Old Faithful. Visitors enjoy hiking, climbing, biking, fishing, boating, bird-watching, skiing, snowmobiling, stargazing and just plain driving in this 2.2 million acre park.
Everglades National Park is close to Miami and is the largest subtropical wilderness in the USA. It's home to the American crocodile and is designated a World Heritage Site and a Wetland of International Importance. Created in 1947, the Everglades National Park encompasses nearly one-and-one-half million acres of South Florida wilderness. Key wilderness areas include the Anhinga Trail, Gumbo Limbo Trail, Lone Pine Key and Mahogany Hammock Trail. Visitors to the park can expect to enjoy a scenic boat ride, nature walk, wildlife drive and infamous airboat ride through the swampland. Bordered by Big Cypress National Preserve, the Everglades National Park is but one small part of the Everglades area
Rocky Mountain National Park, close to Denver in Colorado, is both big and beautiful, Mesa Verde, Black Canyon, Pikes Peak and sandstone pinnacles of the Garden of the Gods. The warm summer months reveal lush green mountains covered in flowers reaching to 14,255 feet appearing to reach the sky attracting visitors to hike, climb, bike, ride horseback, bird-watch and fish. Home to bighorn sheep, beer, elk, moose, beaver, mule, eagles and hawks The Rocky Mountain National park transforms in the winter months into a string of ski resorts attracting downhill and cross country skiers to the many trails glaciers.
